Lorry Driver Charged After Deadly M271 Pile-Up in Southampton
Two Dead, One Seriously Injured in Horror Crash
A catastrophic crash on the M271 motorway in Southampton has claimed two lives. Marian Olteanu, 35, and Ion Calin, 42, both from Shirley, died after a pile-up on December 1 last year involving three lorries and a Ford Mondeo.
Driver Faces Serious Charges
Police have charged 49-year-old Keith Mees from Swanlicote, Derbyshire, with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Mees was identified following an in-depth investigation by Hampshire Roads Policing collision experts.
Serious Injuries Reported
One of the other lorry drivers involved was rushed to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries.
Next Steps in Court
Keith Mees is set to appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court in the coming weeks.
