Man Jailed for Murder of 9-Year-Old Girl Outside Mother’s Shop
Deividas Skebas Found Guilty of Fatal Stabbing
Deividas Skebas, 26, has been convicted of murdering nine-year-old Lilia Valutyte in Boston. The tragic stabbing happened on 28 July 2022 while Lilia was playing with her hula hoop outside her mother’s shop.
Lilia died shortly after 7pm that evening, plunging the community into grief.
Mental Health Issues Delay Trial
Skebas was initially declared unfit to stand trial due to mental health concerns. In 2023, a “trial of facts” confirmed his responsibility but didn’t criminally prosecute him. He was held indefinitely at Rampton Hospital before being cleared fit for the full trial.
Chilling Evidence Reveals Planning and Escape Attempt
The trial that began on 26 January exposed disturbing details. Prosecutors showed CCTV footage of Skebas buying a knife two days before the attack. He was caught lurking near the scene and sprinting away after the murder.
Phone records revealed Skebas shaved off his beard and made plans to flee the country. The jury convicted him of murder on 5 February, bringing a painful end to the case.
Family Speaks Out After Verdict
“Nothing will bring our child back. The pain will not disappear,” said Lilia’s mother, Lina Savickiene.“From the bottom of our hearts, we thank those who stood by us during the hardest time. Your presence meant more than words can express.”
