Portsmouth Burglar Slapped with Nearly Five Years Behind Bars
Jewellery and Gadgets Ripped Off in Southsea Break-In
Liam Barry Whittaker, 25, from Portsmouth, has been handed down a hefty jail sentence after a string of burglaries rocked Whiteley and Portsmouth. On 26 March 2018, thieves kicked in the front door of a Southsea home on Clarence Parade, swiping jewellery and electrical goods.
Cars and Handbag Stolen in Whiteley Raid
The crime spree continued on 9 January 2019, when around midnight, two cars and a handbag were hijacked from a property on Hanoverian Way in Whiteley. Whittaker was caught on CCTV using bank cards stolen from the handbag. Police recovered one of the stolen vehicles soon after.
Whittaker Admits Guilt, Gets Four Years and Eight Months
Whittaker later pleaded guilty to multiple offences, including the high-profile burglaries and fraudulent use of bank cards, at Portsmouth Crown Court. On 22 January, he was sentenced to two years and four months for each burglary, set to run consecutively. The total time behind bars comes to four years and eight months, with concurrent sentences for other admitted crimes.
PC I Pocock said: “The sentences imposed by the court reflect the seriousness of Whittaker’s offending. I hope this brings some closure to his victims as burglary can have a dramatic effect on victims and their families.”
