Sheffield Rapist Slapped with 12-Year Sentence
A 30-year-old man has been jailed for over 12 years after pleading guilty to raping a stranger in Sheffield. Abiola Tijani, of Cherry Street, appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on November 9 for sentencing.
Attack in the Early Hours
The court heard Tijani stalked his victim as she walked home in the early hours of Saturday, July 29. He tried to engage her in conversation before grabbing her and pushing her against railings, where he carried out the horrific assault.
Justice Served: Prison and Lifetime Ban
- Tijani was sentenced to 8 years and 3 months in prison
- He will serve 4 years further on license
- A lifetime restraining order bans him from contacting the victim
The judge acknowledged the crime’s devastating impact, saying, “What you did is every woman’s worst nightmare.” He added no punishment could undo the harm caused.
Police Praise Victim’s Courage
Police Constable Sarah Frith, leading the investigation, hailed the victim’s bravery. She said the victim’s support was vital in securing justice. PC Frith assured that South Yorkshire Police take all rape reports seriously and hope this sentence brings some closure.
