Young mum charged with baby daughter’s manslaughter in Brighton tragedy
18-year-old Verphy Kudi to face court
Verphy Kudi, just 18 and currently with no fixed address, is set to appear in custody at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Monday 19 October. She faces charges of manslaughter over the death of her 20-month-old daughter, Asiah.
Heartbreaking death in Islingword Road home
The tragic events unfolded in December 2019 at their home on Islingword Road, Brighton. Asiah was rushed by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital on 11 December but sadly died shortly after arrival.
Neglect leads to deadly outcome
Postmortem and forensic investigations revealed Asiah’s death was caused by neglect. The CPS has authorised prosecution after a thorough investigation by detectives from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team.
