Chaos Outside Portsmouth Pub: Cop Seriously Injured in Massive Brawl
Police are hunting for witnesses after a violent brawl erupted outside a notorious pub in Portsmouth just before midnight on Wednesday, 29th December.
Officer Attacked During Massive Fight
Patrolling police spotted around 20 people fighting near the hotspot. When officers intervened, one cop in his 30s was viciously assaulted, suffering serious facial injuries. He was rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital and has now been discharged.
The crowd scattered, but police arrested four suspects.
Four Arrested, But Only One Released
- A 22-year-old Portsmouth man was arrested for affray, grievous bodily harm with intent, and possession of Class A drugs. He’s since been released with no charges.
- A 23-year-old man from Portsmouth faces suspicion of affray, serious wounding, and drug possession.
- A 24-year-old from Havant is held on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.
- Another 24-year-old from Waterlooville is in custody for affray.
All but the released suspect remain in custody as investigations continue.
Police Plead for Witnesses
Detective Inspector Mark Alleman from Hampshire Constabulary said:
“This was a nasty fight involving many people in a public place. We believe there are still victims who haven’t come forward. If you were injured or saw what happened, we want to hear from you.”
