Southampton Man Charged After Police Officer Stabbed on Duty

Timothy Walsh, 51, from Portswood Road, Southampton, has been charged with attempted murder of one police officer and attempted section 18 GBH on another. The two officers were sent to check on a man’s welfare at a Portswood Road address just after midday on Thursday, 15 October.

Officer Stabbed Multiple Times

During the visit, one officer was stabbed several times. He was rushed to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Thankfully, he has now been discharged and is recovering at home with his family.

Police Speak Out on Shocking Attack

“This was a horrific incident to have happened to an officer whilst on duty,” said Detective Chief Inspector Brown. “Fortunately his injuries are not life threatening and we are very pleased that he is now back at home and able to recover with his family.”

“Our specialist officers continue to support both officers and their families following this incident.”

Walsh Remanded in Custody

Walsh has been remanded in custody and will appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 17 October. Police are urging anyone with information about the attack to call 101 and quote reference 44200400513.
