Deliberate Fire Ravages Salisbury Flats Near Elderly Residents
A blaze broke out in the stairwell of Tintern Court, The Friary, Salisbury, around 10pm on July 25 — and police believe it was no accident.
Firefighters Race to Save Four Residents
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue crews quickly tackled the fire as it spread to the first floor, affecting three flats. Four people were rescued, with three treated for smoke inhalation. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported.
Flats Left Uninhabitable, Residents Displaced
The fire and smoke damage rendered several flats unsafe to live in. Some tenants have been forced into temporary accommodation while repairs get underway.
Police Launch Manhunt for Suspected Arsonists
DI Dean Garvin of CID said: “All signs point to this fire being started deliberately. These flats housed elderly and vulnerable people. This fire put their lives at risk.”
“Our fire crews acted swiftly to evacuate residents — the consequences could have been far worse. We urge those responsible to do the right thing and come forward.”
“We’re also asking anyone with information to contact us urgently.”
Police want to speak to three young people spotted near the scene before the fire: two males and one female. One male was seen riding a white bicycle.
