A 38-year-old man has been locked up for six years after a brutal knife attack in Bracknell. Matthew Viccars, from Reading, pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm and carrying a blade in public.
Late-Night Brawl Ends in Stabbing
Shortly before 11:15pm on August 27, police rushed to Newlands Place Flats following reports of a fight involving three men. One victim, aged 28, was stabbed three times in the side and rushed to hospital.
The victim needed emergency surgery and had his spleen removed. Though he has recovered, he now faces a lifetime on medication.
Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest
Viccars was identified and arrested the very next day. He was charged on August 29 and later admitted the offences at Reading Crown Court on September 28. The sentence was handed down on November 5.
“Viccars had armed himself with a knife, knowing full well the risk of causing serious harm,” said Detective Constable Erika King. “The victim suffered life-changing injuries and will need medication for the rest of his life.”
“Knife crime impacts victims, families, and entire communities. Thames Valley Police work tirelessly to tackle this serious violence. Viccars will now serve a lengthy prison term and hopefully, this brings some closure to the victim.”
