Cold-Blooded Killer Hid Girlfriend’s Body Under Patio for 15 Years
A Polish woman showed no emotion as she was found guilty of murdering her girlfriend and hiding the body under a garden patio for 15 years. Anna Podedworna, 40, was convicted at Derby Crown Court on Tuesday after denying murder and claiming the death was an accident during a fight. She admitted dismembering Izabela Zablocka, 30, but insisted it was in self-defence—a claim the jury rejected.
Love Turns Toxic Over Gender Surgery Dispute
Anna and Izabela moved from Poland to Derby in 2009, living a turbulent life fraught with arguments over money, booze, and Izabela’s refusal to undergo gender reassignment surgery. Though a lesbian couple, Podedworna reportedly preferred men and pressured Izabela to have the surgery. Izabela’s resistance only made tensions worse, driving their relationship to a bitter end.
Body Stashed in Bin Bags Beneath Garden Patio
Izabela disappeared in 2010 and was declared missing after just 10 days. Police prematurely closed the case, leaving her family desperate for answers. The horrifying truth surfaced only after Izabela’s daughter contacted Polish missing persons charities and a journalist confronted Anna.
Last May, Podedworna finally broke down and confessed. She admitted burying Izabela’s dismembered remains beneath the garden patio, wrapped in black bin bags mixed with animal bones. Police couldn’t establish the exact cause of death due to the time lapse, but uncovered incriminating mobile phone searches about murder and prison life.
Chilling Confession and Harsh Police Words
In court, Podedworna said she attacked Izabela with a horse figurine during a struggle, claiming self-defence after being strangled. She cut the body in half on the living room floor with a kitchen knife before burying the remains in a makeshift grave.
“I felt like some sort of monster,” she admitted.
Detective Inspector Kane Martin slammed her cold-blooded actions: “Anna Podedworna, a highly skilled butcher, treated Izabela no differently than a piece of meat. She acted like a monster. She lied, obstructed justice, and showed utter selfishness.”
DI Martin praised Izabela’s family for their tireless fight for justice. “Suspicion was mounting, and Podedworna was finally forced into a corner.”
Prosecutor Condemns Callous Crime
Samantha Shallow from the Crown Prosecution Service said: “Izabela came to Derby looking for a fresh start but met a tragic and untimely end. Anna Podedworna’s cold and calculated actions denied her family closure for 15 years. Justice has finally caught up with her. Our deepest sympathies go to Izabela’s loved ones.”
Podedworna is due to be sentenced at Derby Crown Court on Wednesday.
