Ex-Prep School Teacher Jailed for Child Sex Offences
Nicholas Martin Eggington, 58, of Arnold, Nottingham, has been locked up for three years at Winchester Crown Court. The former preparatory school master was found guilty of multiple sex crimes against a child dating back to the early 1990s.
Groomed Victim Using Position of Trust
Eggington was convicted of two counts of indecent assault and two counts of gross indecency against a male pupil. The offences happened between 1992 and 1993 at a school on the Berkshire-Hampshire border, where Eggington taught from 1987 to 1993.
Detective Constable Craig Ferguson revealed how Eggington exploited his role as Head of Department and ‘friend’ to the victim. He used this position to isolate the boy in darkrooms, storage cupboards, and even near a secluded river spot nicknamed ‘camps’ by pupils.
Victim’s Courage Praised
“This was a very detailed investigation which required the continued strength and support of the victim and his family,” said Det. Constable Ferguson. “Eggington abused the child sexually on multiple occasions in secluded places around the school.” “I want to commend the victim for the courage and resolve he has shown throughout this difficult process.” “We hope justice will help him rebuild his life and move on.”
Lifetime Restrictions in Place
Eggington is now subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will remain on the sex offenders register for life.
Hampshire Constabulary reaffirmed their commitment to supporting historic sexual abuse victims and bringing offenders to justice.
