Ex-Cop Faces Misconduct Blow After Assaulting Woman During Sex
A former Sheffield police officer has been slammed for gross misconduct after assaulting a woman during a sexual encounter. Rowan Horrocks, who quit before facing a disciplinary hearing, would have been kicked out of the force if he’d stayed.
Brutal Injuries Follow Night Out
The hearing uncovered the extent of Horrocks’ violence. After a night out in November 2021, he took the woman back to his flat and left her with multiple serious injuries. Although a jury at Leeds Crown Court cleared him of rape earlier this month, no one disputed the harm he caused during trial.
‘Consensual Sex’ Defence Falls Flat
Horrocks claimed all injuries came from consensual acts. But the panel ruled the damage amounted to assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH) — a crime you can’t consent to under UK law.
Chief Constable Sends Strong Message
Chief Constable Lauren Poultney made it clear no consent was given for the injuries. She said, “Horrocks did not reasonably believe the complainant was consenting.” Poultney stressed this case sets a tough precedent in South Yorkshire Police, showing they’re serious about tackling misconduct.
“I want to commend the complainant for her bravery coming forward against a police officer,” said Poultney. “Incidents like this hurt trust with our communities, but transparency and accountability are vital to keep our force’s integrity intact.”
The Chief Constable concluded: “There is no place for someone like Horrocks in the police. I thank the complainant for her support throughout this process.“
