Kent Crackdown on Illegal Street Racing Fury
Modified car drivers are flooding into Kent from neighbouring counties to indulge in illegal drag racing and drifting. This reckless behaviour is sparking chaos and community outrage across the county.
Hotspots Roiled by Nuisance Driving
Complaints have surged in areas like Sevenoaks, New Hythe Lane, Larkfield, the A228 near East Peckham, and Hewitt’s Roundabout near Orpington. Locals report noise pollution, damaged roads, choking fumes, and dangerous driving that’s turning quiet streets into chaos.
- Up to 100 attendees jam car meets, causing road blockages.
- Many drivers lack proper insurance, heightening risks.
Police Step Up Patrols Ahead of Summer Weekend
Kent Police are not taking this lying down. Officers are patrolling problem hotspots and will be out in force this weekend to crack down on the tyre-scorching troublemakers.
Earlier this year, six drivers on Bradbourne Park Road, Sevenoaks, copped Traffic Offence Reports for dangerous behaviour. On 20 June, Maidstone Magistrates’ Court fined offenders up to £293, with one snagging five penalty points on their licence.
Police Sgt Nick Bottle, Sevenoaks Local Policing Team, warned:
“West Kent residents are fed up with the dangers posed by nuisance drivers and their impact on community life. The noise, skids, and toxic fumes force locals to shut windows on hot nights just to get peace. We are watching closely. Anyone caught risks fines, arrests, or vehicle seizures.”
With summer in full swing, Kent residents can expect the police to clamp down hard on these anti-social speed demons.
