Southampton Cleaning Boss Dodges Jail After Child Sex Chats

Micheal Harris, a cleaning company manager from Bitterne Park, Southampton, narrowly escaped an immediate prison sentence for sexually explicit communications with a child. The offences took place between 16 June and 4 August 2018, as revealed during his hearing at Southampton Crown Court.

Suspended Sentence and Tough Conditions

Harris was handed a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 24 months. He must comply with strict conditions including registering on the Sex Offenders Register for seven years under Section 92 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

Rehabilitation and Registration Orders

  • Complete the HORIZON rehabilitation programme
  • Undertake 10 days of probation-led rehabilitation activities
  • Remain on the sex offenders register for seven years

Financial Penalties Hit Harris Hard

The court also ordered Harris to pay a £115 victim surcharge and £500 in prosecution costs, adding a financial blow to his suspended sentence.

This case highlights the court’s balance of punishment and rehabilitation in dealing with sexual offences, especially those involving children.
