Speed Demon Banned for Nearly Two Months Over Dangerous Driving
A driver caught speeding and sporting illegal tinted windows was slapped with a 56-day driving ban on Tuesday 12 August. Along with the ban, he picked up three penalty points and faced fines and costs totalling nearly £1,700.
Police Slam Reckless Speeding
PC Matthew Mehen from the Boreham Roads Policing Unit blasted the offender: “Speeding at this level is completely unacceptable and shows a reckless disregard for safety. Excessive speed dramatically reduces a driver’s ability to react to changing conditions and shortens braking distances. We will continue to take firm action against anyone who chooses to break the law and put others at risk.”
Speeding Still Behind Serious Crashes, Police Warn
Officers revealed that speeding remains a major factor in serious and fatal collisions. As part of the Vision Zero plan aiming to wipe out road deaths by 2040, police will crack down harder with targeted enforcement and roadside checks to fight dangerous driving.
Illegal Tints Put Us All at Risk
UK law mandates windscreens must let in at least 75% of visible light, and front side windows 70%. Dark tints, especially at night or in poor weather, reduce visibility and spike the chances of crashes. Police are keen to keep such risks off the roads.
