A Sudanese asylum seeker has been cleared of rape and voyeurism charges in a tense Portsmouth court showdown.
Sudanese Asylum Seeker Cleared in Rape Trial
Mubarak Ibrehim, 25, was accused of attacking a woman behind Portsmouth Crown Court on June 11, 2025. Prosecutors claimed he raped her and secretly filmed the assault on his phone while living at the Royal Beach Hotel in Southsea.
Ibrehim Insists It Was Consensual
But Ibrehim told the jury the encounter was consensual. He claimed the woman “led” him to the vehicle entry bay where the alleged attack took place. He denied all charges, including voyeurism.
From Sudan to Southsea: The Migrant’s Journey
Originally from Sudan, Ibrehim arrived in the UK illegally in October 2023 after crossing the Channel in a small inflatable boat from France. He is currently applying for political asylum.
