Wolverhampton Woman Jailed for Seven Years Over Hastings Drug Bust
Tanya Edwards, 47, from Long Ley, Wolverhampton, has been slapped with a seven-year prison sentence for dealing Class A drugs in Hastings town centre. The offences took place over just two days in October 2021.
Drugs, Cash & a Knife Found in Car
Police stopped Edwards and uncovered Class A drugs, a large amount of cash, and a concealed Stanley knife in her vehicle. She was arrested but bailed with a strict condition: no entry into East Sussex.
Back in Business Despite Bail Conditions
Just two weeks later, on October 20, officers spotted suspicious drug activity at a St Leonards-on-Sea address. Two women going in and out were detained, and as officers searched the property, Edwards was caught trying to swallow wraps of Class A drugs to hide evidence.
More drugs, phones, and cash were seized at the house. A nearby hire car linked to Edwards was also searched, revealing additional drug wraps and more cash.
Guilty Verdict After Week-Long Trial
Edwards was charged with supplying heroin and crack cocaine, plus possession of criminal property. Following a week-long trial in April 2023, a jury found her guilty on all counts. She was promptly remanded and later sentenced to seven years behind bars.
“Thanks to the tireless work of our officers, dangerous drugs have been taken off the streets. We remain committed to protecting the public and tackling drug crime in Sussex,” said Detective Julian Stokes.
