Teen Killer Leighton Amies Found Guilty in Shocking Stabbing
Leighton Amies, just 14 when he fatally stabbed Tomasz, has been convicted of murder by a Newcastle Crown Court jury. The teenager denied the charge, claiming he grabbed the knife only for reassurance—not to kill.
Judge Lifts Reporting Ban to Reveal Teen’s Identity
Following the verdict, Mr Justice Spencer lifted a reporting ban, exposing Amies’ identity to the public for the first time. The judge stressed the move was aimed at warning young people about the deadly consequences of carrying knives.
“This kind of action can have tragic consequences, leading to injury, suffering, and even death,” said Mr Justice Spencer.
The Deadly Night That Shocked a Community
The court heard Amies was walking through a park with his girlfriend when a group of youths followed them. A fight broke out, and Amies pulled out a serrated kitchen knife he had taken from home “for reassurance.” He stabbed Tomasz deeply in the chest, killing him instantly.
Afterwards, Amies bragged to his gang, “I’ve wetted your boy.”
Defense Claims Extreme Duress; Prosecution Calls It Senseless Violence
Leighton’s defense lawyer, Peter Makepeace KC, argued he did not seek trouble and made a terrible choice under intense pressure. Prosecutors insisted Amies intended harm, leading to a needless and tragic loss of life.
Amies was found guilty not only of murder but also of attempting grievous bodily harm and carrying the knife. Sentencing is set for June.
