Southport Violent Disorder: Three Men Jailed Over Six Years

Three men have landed behind bars for more than six years combined after their violent rampage rocked Southport on July 30. Shannon Gibson, 58, Ben Gibson, 32, both from Wigan, and Oliver Maddocks, 22, from Southport, pleaded guilty today at Liverpool Crown Court (October 14) for their roles in the disorder.

CCTV Shows Mob Attacking Police and Theft During Chaos

Shocking CCTV footage captured the trio leading a group hurling missiles at police officers and a police van amid the violent scenes. Maddocks was also seen looting a local Mini Mart on Windsor Road during the mayhem.

Sentences Revealed

  • Shannon Gibson, from Beech Hill Avenue, Wigan, jailed for 2 years 4 months.
  • Ben Gibson, of Almond Brook Road, Standish, Wigan, sentenced to 2 years 8 months.
  • Oliver Maddocks, from St Luke’s Road, Southport, handed 1 year 8 months for violent disorder and burglary.

Police Chief Commander Speaks Out

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Roberts slammed the violence saying: “All three offenders were clearly identifiable on footage at the forefront of the appalling disorder in Southport. These were shocking scenes for the community, especially after recent fatal stabbings.”

He also revealed the scale of the crackdown so far: “The investigation has led to 129 arrests, 92 charges, and 70 court appearances, resulting in a combined total of 151 years and 10 months in sentencing. The probe into these Merseyside incidents continues, with more arrests and charges expected.”
