Two Thugs Jailed After Brutal Assault and Police Siege on Isle of Wight

Nino Cavanagh, 28, and Lewis Morera-Morgan, 21, faced Isle of Wight Crown Court today for sentencing over a violent rampage in Ventnor this summer.

Brutal Attack Leaves Man Hospitalised

On 20 June, Morera-Morgan viciously assaulted a 43-year-old man known to both defendants at an Albert Street address. The victim suffered serious injuries including fractured eye sockets and perforated eardrums. While the assault unfolded, Cavanagh stole some of the man’s personal belongings.

At an earlier hearing, Morera-Morgan pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm. Cavanagh admitted theft.

Police Targeted in Shocking Roof Standoff

Less than six weeks later, on 29 July, police raided a property on Lowtherville Road in Ventnor. Inside, Cavanagh and Morera-Morgan climbed onto the roof, hurling abuse and concrete blocks at officers. Over three hours, they kept throwing debris, damaging a nearby car in the chaos.

Both men were arrested and charged with affray and criminal damage. They later admitted these offences.

Jail Time and Restraining Orders Handed Down

  • Cavanagh, from Carisbrooke, was sentenced to 18 months behind bars.
  • Morera-Morgan, from Ventnor, received 23 months in prison.
  • Both men are subject to five-year restraining orders protecting the assault victim.

“These were violent offences which saw a man hospitalised with serious injuries, and also saw the safety of police officers put at significant risk by the defendants’ animalistic behaviour,” said Detective Constable Ross Jones.

“There is simply no place in society for this kind of behaviour, and I’m pleased that the efforts of all officers investigating these incidents have now put both men behind bars where they belong.”
