Teen Dies After Market Place Pub Brawl
Liam Derrett, 19, was out with friends when a brutal punch-up tore through the Market Place early on Sunday, 1 June. The Kirk Hallam lad tragically died two days later in hospital from injuries sustained in the violent fracas.
Calm Peacemaker Caught in Brutal Fight
The chaos began inside the Market Inn, where two rival groups of young men were already feuding. The row spilled outside, pulling in multiple fighters. Witnesses say Liam was no part of the beef – he stepped in trying to calm tempers, but ended up caught in the crossfire.
CCTV Captures Fatal Attack
Shocking footage shows Kai Donachie land two punches on Liam, leaving him dazed. Seconds later, Joshua Harris struck again, knocking Liam to the ground where he hit his head.
Liam was rushed to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham in critical condition but sadly passed away on Tuesday, 3 June.
Derby Crown Court Delivers Sentences
- Joshua Harris, 24, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was jailed for six years.
- Kai Donachie, 24, admitted affray and was sentenced to four months but walked free, having already served time on remand.
Both men showed remorse at Tuesday’s sentencing.
