Drunk driver three times over legal limit sparks horror four-car crash on A331

Sandra Walton, 46, was slammed behind bars after ploughing the wrong way down the A331 while well over the drink-drive limit. The Manor Road woman caused a serious four-car pile-up back in March, with a staggering blood alcohol level of up to three times the legal maximum.

Four-car pile-up caused by drunk driver

Walton’s reckless driving led to a terrifying collision involving four vehicles. Her car slammed into another, smashing into two more cars caught up in the chaos. Police found her blood alcohol content ranged between 184 and 243 milligrammes per 100 millilitres—well beyond the 80 milligramme legal limit.

The crash left Walton needing emergency hospital treatment for serious injuries, while the other drivers escaped with minor bumps and bruises.

Sergeant warns of deadly consequences

Sergeant Eddie Ryan from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “The consequences that night could have been a lot worse. She was lucky no one was seriously hurt.”

“Driving while over the limit is illegal and extremely dangerous. I hope this sentence serves as a warning to others who think they can drive drunk.”

Jail time and driving ban for Walton

Last Friday (29 November), Walton pleaded guilty at Guildford Crown Court to dangerous driving and driving whilst over the legal alcohol limit. She was sentenced to 10 months behind bars, banned from driving for 3 years and 5 months, and will have to pass an extended driving test before hitting the roads again.
