Lord Nelson Portrait Stolen from Newcraighall Home

Police Scotland are hunting thieves after a huge oil painting of Lord Nelson was pinched from a property in Quarry Cottages, Newcraighall. The artwork vanished between 1pm and 5pm on Saturday, September 30, 2023, leaving the owner distraught.

Historic Painting Worth Five Figures Snatched

The stolen piece is a striking 1.4m by 1.4m portrait of Lord Nelson, set in an elaborate gold frame. Valued in the five-figure range, it’s both historically priceless and cash-rich. The owner had carefully placed it outside while their home underwent renovations, hoping to shield it from damage.

Police Plea for Witnesses as Owner Seeks Justice

PC Richard Bradley said: “This was a large painting left outside temporarily during work to protect it. Its theft is deeply upsetting given its significance and value.”

Police urge anyone who saw suspicious activity around Quarry Cottages during the afternoon of September 30 to step forward.
