Armed robbers hit three Leicester stores in two days – police hunt suspects
Three raids on Tesco and Sainsbury’s in Leicester area
Leicester police are hunting two armed men behind a string of robberies at three stores over 48 hours. The first smash-and-grab hit Tesco on Blaby Road, Wigston, just before midnight on Thursday. Next, the pair struck Tesco in Evington at 9.40pm on Friday. Their latest target was Sainsbury’s near Fosse Park in Enderby at 9.25am on Saturday.
Suspects threaten staff with guns and knives
In every robbery, the duo stormed in separately, trying to make off with bottles of booze without paying. When staff challenged them, the suspects pulled weapons. Both Tesco jobs saw handguns brandished, while at Sainsbury’s, the pair upped the stakes with guns and a knife. They fled each scene with stolen alcohol, leaving shock but thankfully no serious injuries.
Police launch urgent appeal for witnesses
Detective Inspector George Fraser said: “These incidents are extremely concerning, and we are treating this investigation as a priority. We have a dedicated team carrying out full enquiries with support being provided to the victims involved.”
DI Fraser urged anyone near the scenes to share information or dashcam footage. “We understand there will be concern in our communities following these incidents. Please be assured we are working to find those responsible as quickly as possible.”
