Dan Wootton Slams ‘Smear Campaign’ Over Criminal Allegations

GB News host Dan Wootton has hit back at shocking claims made against him on social media. The journalist dismissed all criminal accusations as “untrue” and branded the allegations a “smear campaign.”

Taking to his prime-time show, Dan Wootton Tonight, the 40-year-old addressed the controversy head-on, promising transparency while firmly denying any wrongdoing.

Wootton Breaks Silence Amid Bombshell Report

The firestorm erupted after a Byline Times report alleged potential criminal acts stretching over a decade. Wootton vowed to confront the claims but stopped short of a full rebuttal, citing legal advice.

He said, “I have been the target of a smear campaign by nefarious players with an axe to grind.” Wootton also revealed for the first time that he had suffered an abusive relationship, adding context to the recent attacks.

“While I have made errors of judgment in the past, the criminal allegations made against me are simply untrue,” he insisted, condemning other “unspeakable slurs” thrown his way online.

Police Confirm They’re Reviewing Allegations

The Metropolitan Police revealed they received information in June 2023 about alleged sexual offences linked to Wootton. Officers are currently assessing the evidence but have yet to launch an active investigation.

A spokesperson said, “We are reviewing the information to determine whether any criminal offence has occurred.”

Wootton’s Employers Stay Tight-Lipped

News UK, which owns The Sun where Wootton formerly worked, says it is reviewing the allegations but declined further comment. MailOnline’s publisher, DMG Media, also said it is looking into the claims without elaborating.

Wootton, who joined GB News in 2021 and has built a loyal following, was off-air last week on a pre-planned family holiday to New Zealand. Meanwhile, GB News has not issued an official statement regarding the scandal.
