Police Clamp Down on Disorder in Barnham with Dispersal Order

Police have launched a crackdown on anti-social behaviour and crime in Barnham following a violent disturbance at the local railway station. Starting 2pm on Sunday, March 31, a Section 34 dispersal order will be in effect until 2pm on Tuesday, April 2. This gives officers the power to break up groups and ban them from returning for 48 hours.

Increased Police Presence After Saturday Night Violence

The move comes after trouble erupted on the evening of Saturday, March 30, when public members, security staff, and police officers were assaulted at Barnham Railway Station. Four girls aged 13 to 16 were arrested over charges including assaulting an emergency worker and possession of cannabis. Some remain in custody, while others await court on bail conditions barring them from the station.

Inspector Ross Wickings Vows Tough Action

“We have done a lot of work with the community and partners in Barnham to tackle recent anti-social behaviour,” said Inspector Ross Wickings of the Neighbourhood Policing Team.

“Over the Easter weekend, groups travelled into the village from across Sussex, triggering an unacceptable incident at the station. We’ve teamed up with British Transport Police to investigate and respond.

“The dispersal order allows us to direct people to leave if we believe they could cause trouble. We’re committed to keeping Barnham safe and visible policing will continue throughout the village.

“We urge residents to report any concerns either online, via 101, or 999 in an emergency.”
