Two Men Die in Tragic Essex Motorcycle Crashes Hours Apart
Two men have lost their lives in separate fatal motorcycle collisions on the A120 in Essex, just hours apart on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 16.
First Crash Claims 20-Year-Old Rider
Emergency services were called at around 3:00pm to a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle between Braintree and Coggeshall. Despite paramedics’ best efforts, the 20-year-old rider was pronounced dead at the scene.
Second Collision Involving Motorcycle and Van
Less than two hours later, at approximately 4:30pm, police responded to a second crash on the same stretch of the A120. This collision involved a motorcycle and a van. Tragically, the 42-year-old motorcyclist died at the scene.
Arrest Made in Wake of Second Crash
A 63-year-old man from the Braintree area has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving following the second collision. He remains in police custody as enquiries continue.
“Our enquiries are ongoing. The families of the two men have been informed and specialist officers are supporting them at this difficult time,” said an Essex Police spokesperson.
Road Closures and Ongoing Investigation
The A120 was closed both ways for several hours to allow emergency services to investigate and recover the vehicles. Motorists were urged to avoid the area and find alternative routes while the road remained shut.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Officers are asking anyone who witnessed either collision or has dashcam footage to come forward to aid the investigation. Witnesses can contact Essex Police on 101, quoting the incident times and location, or submit information via the Essex Police website.
