Elon Musk’s X Slammed by Massive Cyber Attack
Social media giant X, the new name for Twitter, faced chaos on Monday as a “massive cyber attack” left tens of thousands locked out of their accounts. Over 40,000 users reported login problems, causing widespread panic across the UK and beyond.
Login Woes Hit Thousands Worldwide
According to outage tracker Downdetector.com, the flood of complaints peaked in the afternoon. Users couldn’t log in, access feeds, post updates, or load images. Notifications lagged and timelines glitched, grinding the platform to a near halt. While some service has trickled back, full recovery remains uncertain.
Musk Points Finger at High-Level Hackers
Elon Musk took to X himself to confirm the hack. He warned it was no ordinary attack.
“There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against X. We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved. Tracing…”
Musk’s words suggest the hackers could be a highly organised gang or even a hostile nation-state.
What’s Behind the Attack?
Officials have yet to reveal who is responsible. Internal security teams and external experts are digging in, but no group has claimed the hit. Cyber pros suspect it’s either a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) assault or a direct breach targeting login systems.
Users Fume as #XDown Trends Elsewhere
As outrage swells, frustrated users have flooded rival platforms, spreading the hashtag #XDown. The attack piles more pressure on Musk, whose leadership has already been slammed for shaky platform stability, controversial content policies, and job cuts since his 2022 takeover.
