What started as a peaceful protest quickly turned ugly as demonstrators clashed with officers. Missiles were hurled at police, sparking violent scenes that forced Essex Police to enforce a Section 35 Dispersal Order across the town centre to curb anti-social behaviour.
Essex Police confirmed they remain at the scene amid ongoing hostility. “A number of individuals continue to throw missiles and behave violently towards our officers,” a spokesperson said.
Road Closures Frustrate Epping Residents
The disturbance led to several hours of road closures on Epping High Road, causing disruption for locals. Police thanked residents for their patience and cooperation during the emergency response.
Chief Superintendent Speaks Out
