Beloved Woman Dies in Horrific Portsmouth Hit-and-Run

A family has paid a heartfelt tribute to Sharon Randall, a much-loved local woman who died after being hit by a car on Winston Churchill Avenue, Portsmouth, on Tuesday, 3 August.

Tragic Collision on Winston Churchill Avenue

Police rushed to the scene at 9.32pm following reports of a collision between a blue Vauxhall Corsa and a pedestrian. Tragically, 55-year-old Sharon Randall, known to friends and family as Polly, was pronounced dead at the scene. She lived on Waterloo Street, Southsea.

Family Mourns ‘Huge Character’ Polly

Polly’s family described her as a “much-loved partner of 33 years” and a vibrant character who left a lasting impression on everyone she met. They said:

“Polly was a huge character that neither family, friends nor others who knew her will ever forget. Her memory will live on through the smiles and joy of all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Rest in peace, our Polly. You’ll be forever in our hearts.”

“At this sad time, we ask for privacy as we come to terms with this devastating loss.”

Hit-and-Run Suspects Arrested

The Vauxhall Corsa involved fled the scene but was soon found nearby. Two people were arrested:

  • A 32-year-old man from Cosham faces charges including dangerous driving, causing death by dangerous driving, driving over the alcohol limit, and drug driving. He has been released under investigation.
  • A 36-year-old woman from Cosham was also arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving over the limit but has since been released with no further action.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Officers are urgently seeking witnesses or anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage to help clarify the circumstances of the collision.
