A devastating arson attack in Edenderry, Ireland, has claimed the lives of a 60-year-old woman and her 4-year-old grand nephew. Police confirmed the blaze was deliberately set after a petrol bomb was hurled through the family’s front window.
Tragic Petrol Bomb Attack Kills Woman and Child
Mary Holt, 60, and young Tadhg Farrell were pulled from their burning semi-detached home on Saturday evening. Emergency crews arrived around 7.45pm but both sadly died at the scene.
A woman in her 50s, believed to be Tadhg’s grandmother, was seriously injured and rushed to hospital. She remains in critical condition.
Police Condemn ‘Reckless, Callous’ Attack
Superintendent Liam Geraghty slammed the attack as “a reckless, callous and murderous attack on a family home.” Gardaí have launched a murder inquiry as they hunt the arsonists.
Geraghty urged anyone near Castleview Park between 7pm and 8pm on Saturday, or anyone with dashcam footage, to come forward immediately.

The house remains sealed off for forensic examination. Post-mortems at Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore are planned for both victims.
Detectives at Tullamore Garda station are working relentlessly to identify the attacker or attackers, currently described as “person or persons unknown.”
