Tragic Death of Baby Alexander in Croydon
The heartbreaking first picture of baby Alexander, who died from a suspected heart attack in Croydon, has emerged. The toddler’s young mum, Ciara Johnston, was heard screaming, “My baby is not breathing,” shortly before lunchtime on Tuesday as she rushed downstairs in panic.
Desperate Rescue Attempt Fails
Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service fought to save Alexander after being called to the scene. The little boy was rushed to hospital but sadly passed away.
A neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, dialled 999 and stayed with Ciara during the ordeal. She described the distraught mother cradling her son, who was “very blue and limp.” She added, “She’s a lovely, caring mum.”
“It’s just so tragic. My daughter used to play with her son. I’ve had to explain to her what’s happened,” the neighbour said.
Police Launch Investigation
Police confirmed officers were called at 11:26pm on Tuesday, 25 February, to a home on Colson Road, Croydon. The London Ambulance Service alerted them after Alexander, 17 months old, went into cardiac arrest.
He was taken to a south London hospital but was later pronounced dead. His family have been informed.
A forensic scene is currently in place. The death is being treated as unexplained, with detectives from the South Area Command Unit leading the inquiry. No arrests have been made.
