Armed Police Lock Down East Cowes Red Funnel Ferry Terminal

Four Detained After Dramatic Police Operation

The East Cowes Red Funnel ferry port was plunged into lockdown tonight as armed officers from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police swooped on a blue Ford Fiesta 18-plate, detaining four people. The ferry’s top ramp was held up as police sealed off the area, preventing vehicles from disembarking.

Vehicles and Passengers Searched Thoroughly

Officers gave the Isle of Wight-registered car a thorough search, with passengers describing a full-on “shake down.” A visible police presence included four vans, a dog unit, and armed roads policing teams.

The car and its occupants were stopped amid a planned operation, with fewer details emerging. One man cheekily asked police to call his mum to pick him up after being released post-search.

Incident Does Not Disrupt Other Ferry Traffic

Despite the heavy police activity, ferry services and traffic into the terminal continued as normal for other travellers. The incident is believed linked to a suspect being brought onto the island, with drugs searches ongoing.
