Top Cops Join Home Secretary to Launch Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week

Detective Inspector James Ross and Sergeant Daniel Bartlett were front and centre at a high-profile event in the Houses of Parliament, joined by Home Secretary Suella Braverman to kick off Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Awareness Week.

New Tactics to Tackle Persistent ASB

The gathering also spotlighted the revamped ASB Case Review, previously called the community trigger. This tool gives victims of relentless anti-social behaviour the power to demand a multi-agency review, bringing police and partner agencies together to find lasting solutions.

With ASB a key focus of Kent Police’s Safer Summer initiative, officers are cracking down on offenders involved in reckless driving, drug misuse, and street drinking.

Anti-Social Behaviour on the Rise – But Underreported

  • 2021: 39,606 ASB reports
  • 2022: 28,130 ASB reports
  • 2023 (so far): 11,053 reports

Superintendent Pete Steenhuis warned: “We do not underestimate the impact that anti-social behaviour can have. It makes communities frightening and unpleasant – places where people live, work, and relax.”

He added, “This isn’t just low-level crime. It leaves a lasting damage on communities. But it’s often underreported. We urge anyone affected to report every incident to help us take the right action.”

More Officers on the Beat and New Community Tools

Thanks to the Home Office police uplift programme, Kent Police boasts its largest-ever force. Extra officers hitting the streets will use a new neighbourhood policing model designed to keep communities safe and target the biggest risks.

Residents are also urged to sign up to My Community Voice, Kent Police’s messaging service to stay connected with local officers. The service shares crime alerts, prevention tips, and lets folks report issues straight to their local policing teams.
