A man in his 30s was arrested after a terrifying smash in Derby city centre left seven people injured and rushed to hospital on Saturday night.
Fiery Collision on Friar Gate Sparks Major Police Hunt
The crash involved a black Suzuki Swift at around 9.30pm on Friar Gate. Derbyshire police launched a full investigation and are urgently seeking witnesses who saw the car speeding around the city before the crash.
Police say there’s no ongoing threat to the public, but Friar Gate remains closed from Curzon Street/Cheapside to Ford Street while inquiries continue. Authorities are warning locals and visitors to steer clear of the area.

The driver was quickly stopped and taken into custody shortly after the smash.

“It was utter chaos,” said one witness. “People were covered in blood, lying on pavements and roads. Truly horrific.”
Another described hearing “screaming and yelling” amid the panic. A pub-goer nearby said: “Someone shouted that a load of people had been hit by a car. Everyone was panicking, checking on mates in other bars. People were crying and visibly shaken.”
