Man Arrested After Police Officer Hit by Car in Erith
A 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a police officer was struck by a vehicle in Canada Road, Erith.
Officer Injured During Vehicle Theft Incident
At around 1.30pm on Wednesday, 30 April, officers responded to reports of an alleged vehicle theft. During the intervention, a police officer was hit by a car and suffered spinal injuries.
The injured officer was rushed to hospital. Thankfully, his injuries were deemed non-life-threatening and non-life-changing. He has since been discharged and is on the road to recovery.
Suspect Held in Custody
Later that evening, at approximately 7.50pm, a man was arrested in Erith and remains in police custody on suspicion of attempted murder.
A Met Police spokesperson said:
“Our officer received spinal injuries but is expected to make a full recovery. We take any attack on our officers extremely seriously. Enquiries are ongoing.”
Investigation Underway – Police Ask for Witnesses
Detectives continue to probe the incident and urge anyone with information to come forward. Police presence will be stepped up in the area in the coming days to reassure local residents.
