Driver Fires Catapult at Police in Wild Wiltshire Chase
Two cops and a police dog were injured after a stolen car driver fired a catapult at them while trying to escape in Wiltshire yesterday.
High-Speed Chase Ends in Amesbury
A stolen Land Rover Discovery crossed into Wiltshire from Dorset around 10am. Specialist roads policing officers, backed by the National Police Air Service, launched a pursuit. The vehicle finally stopped in Amesbury, where a man and woman sprinted away on foot.
Man Fights Back with Catapult — Cops and Dog Injured
The woman was quickly caught. The male suspect hurled missiles from a catapult at officers and Police Dog Elvis during the chase. Two officers sustained injuries — one to the head, another to the chest. Elvis was also struck but still helped bring the man down. A Taser was used to stop the suspect fleeing again.
Suspects Arrested — All Recovering
- A 21-year-old Salisbury woman was arrested for vehicle theft and taking without consent.
- A 33-year-old Salisbury man faces charges including assault on police, attempted grievous bodily harm, drug driving, failure to stop, and vehicle theft.
Thankfully, the officers and Police Dog Elvis were not seriously hurt and have since returned to duty.
