Police Release E-Fit of Suspect in New Cross Sexual Assault

Police have issued an e-fit image of a man wanted in connection with a sexual assault in New Cross. The victim, a woman in her 30s, was followed and attacked in the early hours of December 16.

Woman Followed and Attacked Near New Cross Station

The woman was walking home from New Cross station at around 2:50am when the suspect appeared. He emerged from behind a skip on Jerningham Road and began following her.

He walked alongside the woman for some time before allegedly sexually assaulting her at the junction of St Asaph Road.

Police Appeal for Witnesses and Information

Detective Constable Marissa Harrison, leading the investigation, urged anyone who recognises the man or was in the area to come forward. She said:

“We take every incident of sexual assault extremely seriously and are committed to targeting predatory offenders. Women should be able to walk home safely on our streets without fear of being assaulted. It’s crucial that we find this man.”

“Did you see a man following a woman that night? Or do you recognise the person in the image? Please share any information you have — it could be vital to our investigation.”

At this time, officers believe the attack was an isolated incident. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting CAD XX, or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson added:

“Detectives have released an E-FIT image of a suspect they need to trace in connection with an alleged sexual assault in New Cross Gate.

“The man followed a woman home from New Cross Station just before 3am on Saturday, 16 December. He emerged from behind a skip on Jerningham Road and continued alongside her until the alleged assault at St Asaph Road.”
