Lockdown Loosened: Outdoor Meet-Ups Back From Today!
From today (29 March), the Government’s latest lockdown easing is here. You can now meet outdoors—including in private gardens—in groups of up to six or two households. It’s the first proper breath of fresh air in months!
Sports Facilities Swing Open
Enjoy the sunshine and get active! Outdoor sports facilities like tennis courts, basketball courts, and open-air swimming pools have reopened. Plus, officially organised outdoor sports can now go ahead.
Stay Smart, Stay Safe
The “stay at home” order is officially over but don’t ditch caution just yet. People are urged to work from home if possible and keep journeys to a minimum—avoiding rush hour travel where they can.
Wiltshire Police Crack Down on Rule-Breakers
- Between 22-28 March, Wiltshire Police slapped 26 fixed penalty notices — now totalling 844 since lockdown began.
- 23 formal warnings issued for breaking COVID rules.
- 105 public reports logged via phone and online.
- Two Covid-related crimes and 12 incidents recorded.
A massive thank you to swindon/" title="Swindon" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Swindon and Wiltshire communities for sticking to the rules during this tough lockdown,” said Deputy Chief Constable Paul Mills. “The latest step means you can meet outside in groups of six or two households. We’ve seen virus rates drop because of your efforts.”
“Our officers will keep patrolling to stop blatant rule breakers, especially those hosting or attending illegal gatherings,” Mills added. “Please make sure you know what’s allowed and stay sensible.”
Police and Crime Commissioner Angus Macpherson also warned: “This is a milestone but don’t get complacent. Meet family and friends only outdoors and stick to Hands, Face, Space. Let’s keep COVID under control.”
