Four Dead in Fiery Crash Near Flying Fox Roundabout
Tragedy struck at around 3.40am on Sunday when a single-vehicle crash ignited near the Flying Fox roundabout on the A5. Emergency crews rushed to a burning car in a field near Heath and Reach, only to find four people had died in the horrific smash.
Ongoing Recovery and Investigation
Police and firefighters have been tirelessly working since the early hours to recover the victims and the wreckage. The complex recovery operation has spanned Sunday, Monday, and will continue into Tuesday as investigators piece together what happened.
Serious Collision Investigation Unit Speaks Out
Acting Sgt David Burstow from the Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “We are conducting our work in a dignified and meticulous manner to establish what happened in this tragic, awful incident. We believe there were four people in the car who sadly died in the collision.”
Officers trained in family liaison are supporting the victims’ loved ones, while forensic identification is underway. Sgt Burstow added: “While we believe no other vehicles were involved, our investigation into the circumstances continues.”
Public Appeal: Dashcam Footage Needed
Police have urged the public not to speculate on social media, respecting the families’ wishes. But they are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Sgt Burstow said: “We would particularly welcome anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage to help with our enquiries.”
