Massive Data Breach Hits Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police Officers
Hundreds of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police officers have had their personal details stolen in a shocking malware attack. The Police Federation staff association fell victim to ruthless hackers who not only stole data but also wiped entire databases.
Cyber Crooks Swipe Sensitive Police Info
Hackers gained access to confidential files containing officers’ names, ranks, email addresses, and national insurance numbers. Worse still, bank details were also nabbed during the cyber raid. Personal info tied to officers involved in complaints didn’t escape either.
Guest Details and Credit Card Numbers Exposed
The breach didn’t stop there. Files included unencrypted guest details and credit card info from the Federation’s Surrey conference hotel. This careless lapse has left many furious and concerned about identity theft and fraud.
Investigation Underway, Chairman Apologises
Authorities are still probing the breach, with no word yet on whether the stolen data has been misused. Red-faced Police Federation chairman John Apter apologised, insisting the organisation takes security “very seriously”.
“We are deeply sorry for this breach and are reviewing all security measures to prevent a repeat,” Apter said.
