Huddersfield Police Back Victims at Islamophobia Event
The Huddersfield Neighbourhood Policing Team promises to listen and support residents reporting hate crimes. Inspector Graham Dyson made the pledge at an Islamophobia Awareness Month event held at Huddersfield University on November 1.
Big Names Unite Against Hate Crime
The event drew top local figures, including Kirklees Council Leader Cllr Shabir Pandor, Huddersfield’s Vicar Rev Canon Rachel Firth, and Abdul Jebar from the Huddersfield Council of Mosques. They joined forces to highlight the impact of Islamophobia and hate crime across West Yorkshire.
West Yorkshire Police Vow to Tackle Hate Crime Head-On
West Yorkshire Police recognise the devastating effect of hate crime on victims and communities. They run regular campaigns to raise awareness and encourage people to come forward.
“Hate crime affects so many people,” said Inspector Dyson. “It’s not just the victims, but their family, friends, and whole communities. It was great to hear how seriously West Yorkshire Police take these crimes and how communities feel more confident reporting offences.”
He added: “Hate crime can never be tolerated. We will continue to investigate every report robustly and bring offenders to justice.”
How to Report Hate Crime
If you or someone you know has been the victim of hate crime, contact West Yorkshire Police immediately. Reports can be made via their official website or by calling 999 for emergencies, or 101 for non-emergencies.
