Swindon Bloke Jailed For Machete and Heroin Just Weeks After Release
A 20-year-old Swindon man has landed himself behind bars for two and a half years after being caught with a machete and a stash of heroin – just two weeks after walking free from prison.
Masked Man on Illegal E-Bike Tries to Escape Police
Leonard Howard, of Harding Street, was spotted by officers in the Upham Road area on June 10. Wearing a black balaclava and riding an illegal electric bike, he tried to make a run for it but was quickly caught. Police found a large machete tucked into his trousers, along with a mobile phone and a wad of cash.
Drugs and Cash Found in Linked Property
A follow-up search at a property connected to Howard uncovered a significant quantity of heroin, drug-dealing equipment, and more cash. His phone revealed clear evidence of involvement in selling class A drugs around Swindon.
Guilty Plea and Tough Sentence
Howard admitted to being concerned in the supply of heroin from May to June 2024 and possession of a bladed weapon in public. He was sentenced at Swindon Crown Court on September 3 to two years and six months behind bars.
PC Aidan Hillier from the Serious Youth Gang Violence Team said: “Just two weeks after being released from prison, Howard thought it was acceptable to carry a machete in public and supply class A drugs to vulnerable people in Swindon.”
“We know the public are worried when they see people riding illegal e-bikes wearing balaclavas – it creates fear. That’s why making our streets safer is a top priority. We will hunt down those who bring harm to our communities.”
This sentencing sends a clear message that Swindon’s police are cracking down hard on drug crime and violent threats to public safety.
