Pregnant Woman and Unborn Baby Killed in Shocking Police Car Crash in Eltham

A tragic collision involving an unmarked police car has claimed the lives of a pregnant woman and her unborn baby in Eltham. The heartbreaking crash happened on Thursday evening, sparking a major emergency response and a full investigation.

Fatal Crash on A20 Near Kidbrooke Park Road

The smash occurred around 6:15pm on October 17th on the A20 close to the Kidbrooke Park Road junction (SE9). An unmarked police vehicle collided with another car, seriously injuring the 38-year-old pregnant woman inside.

Emergency crews raced to the scene, including the London Ambulance Service, Fire Brigade, and Air Ambulance. Despite their best efforts, both the woman and her unborn child were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation Underway as Community Mourns

Next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers. Detective Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry, who oversees policing in Greenwich, expressed his sympathy:

“My heart goes out to the woman’s family and friends who have lost their loved ones in these tragic circumstances. An investigation into the circumstances of this collision is under way by the Independent Office for Police Conduct, and we will assist with their enquiries in any way we can.”

The two police officers involved were taken to hospital and have since been discharged.

Road Closures and Ongoing Inquiry

The A20 remains closed at the crash site with drivers urged to find alternative routes. Detective Chief Superintendent Lawry thanked locals for their patience during the probe.
