Tragedy on A1M: Man Falls to Death from Bridge

A 73-year-old man died after falling from a bridge over the A1M southbound early on Wednesday morning (27 April). Police were called at 5.10am to reports of a man standing on the wrong side of the railings between Junctions 35 and 36.

Man Falls from Bridge, Dies at Scene

A short time after officers arrived, the man fell from the bridge and sadly died at the scene. Two vehicles travelling beneath the bridge at the time have been recovered by police. However, they are still hunting the driver of a third vehicle believed to be involved.

Driver of White Van Sought for Questioning

Roads Policing Officer PC Will Lane said CCTV shows a white van, similar to a Ford Transit Custom, passing under the bridge at the time of the fall.

“The driver of the van is not in any trouble and has not committed any offence, but it’s important we speak to them about this incident. They would have been travelling southbound, passing Junction 36 near Doncaster at 5.10am,” PC Lane explained.

Public Help Wanted

Police thanked those who’ve already shared information and dashcam footage but urged the van driver to come forward. Anyone with info is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 95 of 27 April.

If you were driving a white van on the A1M last Wednesday morning or know who was, contact police immediately.
