Clapham High Street Stabbing Sparks Major Police Operation

A part of the A3 Clapham High Street remains shut this morning after a stabbing last night sent shockwaves through the area. The southbound carriageway, between Bedford Road and Aristotle Road, was sealed off following the attack under the railway bridge at around 9:15pm on Thursday, 10 April.

Emergency Response & Road Closures

  • Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance Service rushed to the scene, cordoning off the area immediately.
  • Several bus routes, including the 50, 88, 155, 322, and 345, face diversions due to the ongoing closure.
  • Despite the disruption, traffic is reportedly managing well.
  • Commuters are urged to steer clear of the area and expect delays.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

The Met have yet to make any arrests and are urgently seeking anyone with information, CCTV, or dashcam footage. A police source said:

“We are investigating a serious assault on Clapham High Street. If you saw anything or have dash cam or CCTV footage, please contact us immediately.”

Community on Edge

Local residents voiced their fears about rising violence. One told us: “It’s really unsettling. That’s a busy road, especially at night. It’s frightening that something like this could happen here.”

Forensic teams remain at the scene this morning, with the road likely to stay closed for hours. Police have not given a reopening timeline.

Official Statements from London Ambulance Service and Police

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed:

“We were called at 9:09pm on 10 April to reports of a stabbing at Clapham High Street and Bedford Road. Ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer, and a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance were dispatched. Our first paramedic was on scene within four minutes. A man was treated and taken to a major trauma centre as a priority.”

The Met Police statement released at 10:18am on Friday 11th April added:

“At 21:11hrs on 10 April, officers were called to Clapham High Street after reports of a stabbing. One man was treated for stab wounds and taken to hospital. Two other men self-presented at hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. All three have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. The investigation continues.”
