Detective Sergeant Nick Bailey Retires After Novichok Ordeal
Detective Sergeant Nick Bailey, the brave officer exposed to the deadly Novichok nerve agent during the 2018 Salisbury poisoning, has officially retired. His retirement marks the end of an extraordinary chapter for both him and Wiltshire Police.
Chief Constable Pays Tribute
Chief Constable Kier Pritchard praised Nick’s dedication and resilience, saying:
“I have known and respected Nick for many years as a dedicated colleague and detective. Understandably, Nick and his family’s lives were turned upside down following the events in Salisbury back in March 2018.”
“Nick was one of the first officers at the scene and was exposed to the lethal nerve agent Novichok. These shocking and unprecedented events changed his life and his family’s lives significantly. It’s impossible to fully grasp the impact and sacrifices they’ve made.”
“His commitment never wavered—Nick made several attempts to return to full duties, showcasing the determination every police officer should have. Every day, officers like him put themselves in harm’s way to protect others.”
“Nick should be proud. He will always be part of the Wiltshire Police family. As one chapter closes, another will open. I wish Nick and his family every success.”
