Teen Hero Saves Mate After 15ft Plunge Into Rising Tide at Lowestoft
A local teen is being hailed a hero after saving his friend who fell 15ft from a promenade wall near Ness Point, Lowestoft. The quick-thinking youngster kept his friend’s head above water as the tide rapidly surged in.
Dramatic Rescue at Sea Wall
The terrifying incident happened just after 2.30pm on 11 May. One boy fell from the sea wall into the water below. With the tide rising fast and his friend’s head at risk of going under, the other teenage boy didn’t hesitate. He jumped down and held his mate’s head above the water, holding on until emergency teams arrived.
Emergency Crews Rush to Scene
HM Coastguard Lowestoft, HM Coastguard Gorleston, RNLI Lowestoft, Suffolk Police, Fire and Rescue, East of England Ambulance Service, and East Anglian Air Ambulance all scrambled to help. They dropped two lifejackets to the boys before using throwlines and a ladder to haul them safely back over the wall.
Both Boys Hospitalised, Heroes Praised
