Three injured after double-decker bus crashes into bridge in Woodley, Berkshire this morning.
Driver Suffers Medical Episode Before Smash
The crash happened around 9:15am on Loddon Bridge Road. Reports say the male driver suffered a medical episode behind the wheel just before the bus slammed into the bridge.
Victims Rushed to Hospital
- A woman in her 80s and another in her 40s suffered facial injuries and were rushed to Royal Berkshire Hospital (RBH).
- A teenager sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
- The driver is also receiving medical care at RBH.
Bus’s Upper Deck Shattered – Road Closed
Photos reveal the bus’s upper deck badly damaged with multiple smashed windows. Witnesses say the bus should have turned left before the bridge but instead drove straight into it.
Thames Valley Police shut the road while National Highways checked the bridge for damage. The road has since reopened.
Reading Buses Speak Out
A Reading Buses spokesperson confirmed the bus was theirs and admitted it “departed from the normal route.” They said: “We are working with emergency services to investigate the circumstances.”
