Shoplifting Spree Foiled After Fast Police Action
Thieves Caught on CCTV
Police sprang into action yesterday afternoon after CCTV operators spotted a man and woman zooming off from Boots without paying. The duo fled in an Audi A3, sparking a rapid search.
Suspects Nabbed with Stolen Goods and Drugs
Officers found the vehicle parked outside Tesco in Castle Street. A search revealed stolen beauty products, clothing, illegal class A and B drugs, and a baseball bat inside the car.
Two Arrested in Connection with Crime Spree
- A man in his 30s from Exmouth was arrested for possession of an offensive weapon, theft, no insurance, and possession of class A drugs.
- A woman in her 50s from Warmley, South Gloucestershire, faces charges including theft, possession of an offensive weapon, and possession of class B drugs.
Both suspects are currently in custody in Melksham, with investigations ongoing.
Police Praise CCTV Vigilance
“This was excellent work by Citywatch volunteers who initially flagged the suspected shoplifting in the city centre. Officers responded swiftly, made two arrests, and seized multiple stolen items,” said Duty Insp Gareth Edwards. “We continue to collaborate closely with CCTV teams, especially during the busy festive season, to catch opportunist thieves and organised criminals alike. This sort of behaviour won’t be tolerated – criminals will be caught.”
